Comments: This first set of days shortly after launch includes some days with mostly non-useful atmospheric data because of testing and unusual operations. Only UARS days 8, 10, 11, and 12 contain mostly good atmospheric data. We note, however, that UARS day 12 exhibited an unrecoverable software error, so that no Level 2/3 files exist.

These are spikes in the retrieved TEMP mixing ratios for records with MMAF_STAT = G/T/t and DQI = 4/2 (that is, good records with good radiances). Spikes are identified by comparison of their deviation from the monthly zonal mean with the rms variability (sigma) calculated in distinct 6 degree latitude bins.
